About this site

Naming Te Hao Rangahau

A Hao is a sophisticated net, designed to catch certain sizes and amounts, allowing others to swim through the net and so continuing the sustainability of growth and regeneration while it feeds the people. Like the Hao, Te Hao Rangahau has been constructed to provide research, knowledge and information in an ongoing and sustainable way to make MSD research and information accessible to the broadest number of people.

What it is, and what it is not

Te Hao Rangahau is a selected bibliography of documents that illustrate and explain the themes and events our research team felt were most relevant to support people involved in Kaupapa inquiries. It is not a comprehensive library of all MSD-related material. Similarly, the chronology presents an overview of key events in Maori political, social, cultural and economic development.

Our research team used a literature review methodology to find and organise material from MSD archives and other sources, and the project team developed a 'document release' process that ensured all material in the website has been reviewed and approved for inclusion.

MSD will continue to upload material to fill any identified gaps, either as part of day-to-day work, or in response to requests.

Acknowledgements

This valuable research tool would not have been possible without the vision, guidance and hard work from our team of historians based at University of Auckland, led by Melissa Matutina Williams and supported by Associate Professor Aroha Harris. Professor Tracey McIntosh, MSD's Chief Science Advisor, provided invaluable guidance and encouragement.
