Using this site

We hope that you find this site useful, and intuitive to use. But to get the best results, it is useful to understand how the components fit together, and how the themes have been applied to documents and chronological events.

Te Hao Rangahau comprises:

  1. An annotated bibliography containing documents dating from 1938 to the present. Each document is supported with a succinct summary and key bibliographic information. Documents are identified with a PDF icon to differentiate them from chronology events in search results.
  2. A chronology – this is a short history of selected social history events from 1840 onwards of particular relevance to Māori. It is provided both as a fully referenced downloadable PDF, and as interactive web content.
  3. Search options: You can search by:
    • themes, which are organised into three categories: population, reports, and kaupapa, and/or
    • time periods, which match the structure of the chronology, and/or
    • you can use the search box search on your own key words.

The search page will return content both from the bibliography (identifiable by the PDF icon) and the chronology (text only).
