Outlines WINZ strategy to improve unemployment rates for Māori and provides the framework from which the department will work to ensure the objectives are being met. A key part of the outlined strategy includes the initiation of self-determining solutions to be provided for Māori by Māori, partnering with iwi, Māori non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and government organisations to deliver services. Five outcome statements are identified with 12 key strategies outlined, each with a set of specific deliverables and measures to achieve them, a matrix of these are provided in Appendix A . Unemployment disparities for Māori are discussed, including increased unemployment rates, decreased formal qualifications and more Māori sole mothers accessing the Domestic Purposes Benefit with increased barriers to employment such as childcare costs. DWI key priorities are listed, with mention to how the department’s strategy aligns with the government’s key goals.
