Summary of an evaluation of outcomes and implementation of two family violence prevention initiatives in Te Tai Tokerau – Everyday Communities (EDC) and Everyday Theatre. EDC was coordinated by CYF in collaboration with Amokura, an organisation which implemented violence prevention strategies, particularly for Māori families. EDC’s objectives included promoting personal responsibility for child protection from violence, providing initial support to existing community groups and promoting networking between CYF, communities and NGOs. Everyday Theatre was an interactive performance in schools which aimed to equip children with tools to identify and gain an understanding for peers experiencing family violence. Strengths and weaknesses of this initiative, which was implemented in the same areas as EDC, were evaluated. Includes recommendations to improve the effectiveness of the programme.
