Summarises the commitment New Zealand made at the World Summit for Children, held in New York in 1990. The report overviews the status of New Zealand children and what the government is doing to assist children and their families. The report begins by discussing the themes of child population, and the status and rights held by children. Thereafter, the majority of the report focuses on children’s health (physical and mental) and specific people or environments or circumstances that can impact on New Zealand children. The role of women (and particularly Māori women), child abuse, education, Māori education, and legislation that impact children are discussed at the end of the report. There are some examples of factors impacting child wellbeing.
