In August 1983 the Minister of Social Welfare established an Advisory Committee on Foster Care to enquire into and report on: 1) provision and practice related to recruitment, training and social work support for foster parents, 2) the bases for compensating or remunerating foster parents taking into account the needs of the child and the numbers of children being cared for; 3) to consider whether present provisions are sufficient; 4) any other matters considered conducive to the provision of quality foster care.
